Hong Kong is a international city, there were various racial people would lived in Hong Kong. In order to cater to the different people, there were several kind of movie would shown in Hong Kong cinema, it’s included Hollywood movie, Japan movie, mainland China movie and local movie. The best Hong Kong movie in box office is “Kung Fu Hustle (功夫)”, it shown in 2004 and got $61,278,697 box office. On the other hand, the best office box of foreign movie is “Titanic”, it’s shown in 1997 and got $114,939,300 box office. The foreign movie could attract more audience than the local movie. However, it’s not represent that local movie is not worth to watch, as the local movie still have their value and sympathy to the audience.

In the recent years, there were only six local movies could gain more than $35,000,000 but there were fourteen foreign movies got this result. Hong Konger trend to watch Hollywood movie, as the production cost, special effect, casting and quality were better than local movie. However, “Lust Caution (色．戒)” should be an exception, as in that period, “Lust Caution” become the top of the Hong Kong office box. “Lust Caution”, “The Nanny Diaries (保姆日記)”, “Stardust (魔幻星塵)” had already shown on sixteen days, when the two foreign movies compare with “Lust Caution”, “Lust Caution” still got a good result that it had already got more than $20,000,000 until 9/10.

On Tuesday, I watched “Lust Caution”, I thought that half of the audience were the mainland Chinese, as mainland version would cut all of the sex scene, so if they want to watch the full version of this movie, they could only watch in Hong Kong. It implies that different place has different culture and rules, also the receivability is different. China government stipulated that the sex scene should not be shown in the movie. On the other hand, Hong Kong movie had distinguish to different level, and this movie in Hong Kong is level three and only above eighteen years old people could watch in the cinema. In addition, another half of the audience was the middle- aged couple and the middle-ager, even the elderly would watch this movie, too. I seldom watch the local movie in the cinema, as I think it seem like waste the money and not valuable. However, this movie has many talking points and it’s the hottest topic in Hong Kong, even in the world. Not only the sex scene attract people, but also Ang Lee (李安) could base on 12,000 words of story to cinematize a two and half hours movie. Hence, this movie could break down the barriers of the western movie and local movie. Therefore, it means that if only the films has talking point and have enough exposed in the media, such as newspaper and magazines, the film would be success. Besides, the report should come to notice to the audience, and it should make interest to the audience. Most of the audience focus on the sex scene in the “Lust Caution” and ignore other aspect of this movie. For example, the main actress Tang Wei, she had a great performance in this movie. She possess a 30’s- 40’s female face, also through her act, eye contact and facial expression, it seems that she want to shown she is the best actress to represent Wang Jiazhi. Those of the causes make her performance touch and affect all the audience.
