Many films are on air in the summer, because of the golden schedule in summer vocation. But not much pictures can acheive me to watch a film in theather, except two films. One of them is Zodiac, and the other one is “Lust, Caution”.
The first image for me after watched Lust Caution is a big shock. I don”t think it is a commercial picture, instead the artistic level of this picture is very high. Director Ang Lee want to present an other image about the the circumstance in China in the World War II. In that time, youngsters had their own discourse about the invasion of Japanese. They thought that they should do something to cope with the invasion, and one of them was to deal with traitors. Wang Jiazhi (performed by Tang Wei) was arranged to be an undercover to provide a chance to root out one of the famous traitors, Mr. Yee (performed by Tony Leung). During the process Wang Fell in deep love with Mr. Yee and this became the cause of the failure of the operation.
Why did the picture shocked me were the sexual scenes in the picture. The story of “Lust, Caution” is based on a conte written by Eileen Chang in the 1970’s, at that time people’s ideology was still remained in a traditional way in which discussion of sex was a taboo in chinese communities. although today the mind of people changes a lot already, but boundaries still exist. Ang Lee prefer to break the boundaries and he think love is no restriction and barriers. So in his picture he tend to present the natural realtionships between love and sex, instead of just have a linear description about it.
the another shock to me is the meticulous decription about the mind process of Wang Jiazhi in the “Lust, Caution”. Nowadays the request of audiences about a picture is the content of the picture have to be more meaningful, but seems the description about the mind process of Wang Jiazhi is placed in the much higher level. In the beginning of the picture Wang was just the same with other youngsters’ discourse and ideoloy in that age that she could give up everything to deal with the invasion, in order to protect their own country, but afterwards it is totally changed. When she first met Mr. Yee, she was successfully attracted the attention of Mr. Yee and he was crazy about her. We can see that in the first sexual scene, in which Mr. Yee tore Wang’s dress just like he was rapping her. This is an representation of how much he wanted to own everything of Wang, but unforturately Wang was also falling in deep love with Mr. Yee. Since the ideology of women was that love is the first priority of their life, they can sacrifice everything in order to be crazy about someone. So at last when the best chance of eradicating Mr. Yee, she chose to warn Mr. Yee about his dangerous situation. She chose to betray her teammates, she chose to scrifice the benefit of her own country, and even her own life. This is stated that in the situation of love relationship, women are more irrational than men, they tend to have a love with vigor and vitality, and they can give up everything, include their career and life, and this is the reason why the contes of Eileen Chang are still so famous and powerful until today…
